Doesn’t sound like tongue tie to me. My nipples were on fire for about six weeks and there was no problem - it just hurts in the beginning more than LC as want to admit.

Op here, sorry you had to experience that! For your tongue tie baby, was it painful through out the nursing session? I’m experiencing particularly sharp pain right at the initial latch but by 30-45 seconds in it doesn’t hurt as bad. Does that sound like what happened with your DC?

DP. That sounds more like normal new baby soreness. I just had number five and still had that issue for a couple days.

If they get particularly bad, it could be a sign of a problematic latch or tongue tie (it was for us), but if it's going well and the LC says it's fine, then it may just be the adjustment period. Totally normal. Please don't listen to people who say breastfeeding shouldn't hurt. You can't go from nothing to being sucked every few hours without them being sore! It will get better as the skin gets used to the new normal.

It will eventually get better with time. My nipples hurt so bad at every latch for the first 4 weeks. Second kid only 2 weeks and third kid I don’t remember being sore.

Just gave birth to DD two days ago, so far breastfeeding has been going well! She latches on relatively easily and I’ve been bringing her to breast on demand but at a minimum of every 2.5 hrs. Nursing sessions have been anywhere from 15-45 mins. My nipples feels so sore! I got silverettes which help some and have been using nipple butter in between nursing sessions. Can’t speak to my lactation consultant until Monday but is this normal? Should I be doing something else to ease the pain or just bear through it?
