Whole Foods has packages of the larger sheets. The ones I like the best are made with avocado oil. I’ve found them in the International Food aisle — not in the aisle with the smaller packs of snacks.

They sell big sheets of roasted laver at adian groceries, like almost letter paper sized (8”x9” or so). They come in packs of 6-8 sheets, and you cut them into whatever size squares you want. They taste much much better than the precut ones, much crispier and fresher.

In case you are interested, the snack packs are a fairly recent development. First, ggim (Korean word for roasted laver) was mostly sold unroasted in sheets. I spent a lot of time as a kid, brushing sesame oil on each sheet and then roasting each sheet individually over our electric range. It took forever and I often burned holes in them. It required s’mores type patience and skill. Then, they started selling pre roasted and seasoned laver in sheets and it was beautiful, but you had to be careful not to buy old stock because the oil would turn rancid. Then came the precut pre roasted sheets. I eat it almost daily and I’m grateful not to be roasting my own anymore!

If you go to an Asian supermarket, you can find bigger plastic tins of seaweed with red lids. Maybe you can buy a few and put them in a tupperware?

Kids love those individually packed seaweed snacks. So do I actually.

Is it possible to get them without so much packaging? The little tray, desiccant, and outer wrapper are so much waste for such a small treat.
