I laughed at the top photo because she's a pretty woman but that dress is deeply unflattering. It makes her look like a toddler in a Christmas dress. The anecdote about the woman mocking the knock offs and noting you have to get it hemmed and darted was also amusing. She's totally right about the alterations. If you want it to give you at least a hint of a nice shape (and not make you look short and squat) you need to have it taken in and up.

I dislike it. The faux pockets and the braiding detail just looks heavy and tacky to me. I do like the shape (which works well on my body-- slim athletic build with a small chest) but the PP is right that fabric sounds like hell in a DC summer.

Entirely unsurprising to me that it's been embraced by young Republican staffers though. The gold buttons don't read as Jacquie Kennedy to me at all -- that's pure Nancy Reagan with a dash of Ivanka thrown in. It's the gawdy 80s interpretation of 60s glamour, not the real thing. Sorry.

Its hard to find summer dresses that look professional (with sleeves). I see the appeal.
