Maybe they spend less money cleaning?

A couple times recently I went to stores and the smell was bad: At Target near the meat section the smell was foul, At Aldi the whole store smelled bad, I went to Walmart and the bakery section smelled like a feed store. Is it me developing some sense of smell, or are stores smelling worse?
