I find it hard to believe someone making just casual outsider observations about York is looking up the exact number of swimmers they have, the places they finished at PVS LC champs (both of which I agree are fairly easy to find) but then also figure out which NVSL swimmers swim with York and their placements. If you’re not affiliated with York and just an outside observer how would you remember which NVSL swimmers swim club for York?

Honestly, York is fun. The team wants kids to have other sports until at least high school. There is a great cohort of kids who swim for the same summer teams as well (as PP said, lots at Tuckahoe and Chesterbrook, plus ICC). The 12 and under gold coach at Yorktown also coaches Tuckahoe and the gold coach at Oakmont also coaches ICC. So yes, lots of consistent coaching and good training cohorts.

Many of them are doing 3x 90 minute workouts a week. That’s a lot of swimming for a 9 or 10 year old.

I’m the parent of a top 5 10&U in many events from the SCY season. OP is right that a lot of York 9-10 girls have really improved and ascended. Why are they good: Most swim at Tuckahoe or Chesterbrook in the summer and Yorktown in the winter. They get good coaching with consistent messages and stroke progression year round. Many are from generational swim families that prioritize swimming from an early age- think age 3, not 9.

Why are there so many now: it ebbs and flows. Look at the 11-12s for York, it’s not nearly as strong.

And for rankings: none of the websites have perfect databases swimcloud, swimmingrank, etc. I find swimmerstats though frequently out of commission, to give the best, easiest view of rank in an age group within a club / PVS.

Actually, I misread, sorry. Didn’t realize PP was talking about an NVSL meet. They must have taken the time to look up every top 18 finisher to see which club. And maybe pulled team size from swim cloud or something …

Maybe, but it’s pretty easy to go to a meet on meet mobile and filter swimmers by team for a specific meet.

There were only like 20 swimmers from York at LC champs?

I had to look at the numbers to see if they held up to my opinion. It seems there are only 83 9-10 Girls who swim for York.
In PVS 9-10 Girls 50 Free SCY, ## 4, 14, 18, 24, 32, 39 are York
11 York girls makeup the top 33 in NVSL 9-10 girls events:
9-10 Free - ## 2, 5, 14, 15, 20, 27, 35 are York
9-10 Back - ## 1, 3, 12, 17, 23, 29, 33 are York
9-10 Breast - ##2, 6, 16, 30, 32 are York
9-10 Fly - ## 1, 10, 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 25, 33 are York
— Those seem like great ratios?

I have noticed over the past few years how much growth the York 10U swimmers — especially the girls — make over a very short period of time, and it leaves me wondering what goes so well at York. Would anyone mind sharing? We live an hour + away from the nearest York site, but I would love to learn what York does to help their young swimmers reach their potential so well and quickly.
