I'm sorry if this is not a welcome comment, but it sounds like they may have begun the dying process. It might be helpful to have a discussion with a hospice provider - they may be able to provide guidance and information on what is going on.

Have you talked with her about hospice and end of life care/wishes? These are classic signs of someone who feels done, but could also be symptoms of her diseases. Knowing what she wants is the most important thing right now

My mother isn’t wheelchair bound but she lost 13 pounds in 3 months because she wasn’t eating. She just threw up her hands one day and was too tired to cook so her meals consisted of bread and milk or nothing. That will definitely impact strength. Other possibilities - a new medication’s side effects, depression, or just aging in general (things can happen fast). Sorry to hear and I hope things improve with the skilled nursing.

Elderly person has lost 50 percent of strength in past 2 months, not eating except a glucerna shake, drinks water, sleeping during day, is in wheelchair and is at risk of falling with every transfer. Moving to skilled nursing. Any experience with similar situation? What happened?
