A parent coordinator is a professional, usually either a lawyer or a mental health clinician, who helps separated or divorced parents work out issues related to their children.

When a parent coordinator is court-ordered, as in OP’s case, they actually have some degree of delegated authority from the court. It’s different in different states and orders, but the PC can sometimes dictate what you have to do.

Tread very carefully with this. Depending on how the order is written, a bad parenting coordinator could really go off the rails. Did you ask your lawyer for recommendations? Unfortunately there are real nutjobs in this industry.

We used Lisa Herrick for some attempts at creating a parenting plan and she was effective. I didn’t spend enough time with her to really have a strong opinion but she seemed more competent than others and also strong enough to deal with conflict.

OP here - The PC is court ordered and agreed up by both parties in a highly litigious divorce, one parent is a lawyer and seems to want some time of vindication in court and keeps dragging the other parent back into court. Obviously if it were avoidable, not having a PC or going to court over and over would be ideal.

Personally I think parent coordinators are a giant expensive scam. Better to work out a system to communicate and clear legal boundaries. For any truly contentious joint legal decisions (like school choice, medical care) I’d go straight to an actual therapist who can help you talk it through together.
