NP: OP explicitly said their son is potential interested in a UVA fraternity, but is concerned about hazing. How is that 'posting crap to bolster an argument' that fraternities are bad? One of my kids is in a frat--not my thing, but it wasn't my choice--I just said if you want to do it, pay your own dues. On the whole, I think it's a positive for him (but of course I don't know all the details). I'll still critique hazing (or racism or other abusive behavior) from frats just as I would from any other organization--as does my son. If anything, he's the one who'll critique them first and harshest since they contribute to the bad reputation of fraternities overall.

Greek system is known for behaving like this. Not all, but there are routinely major incidents at multiple schools yearly that Make the news. Most likely there are tons more doing this that simply don't get caught. This isn't new. It has been going on for decades. The greek system (and sports) are the only groups that are massively known for this.

A few dabs of hot sauce on "the boys" in exchange for three and half years of getting girls isn't the worst trade.

No one says “frat.”

I was in a fraternity at a Midwest school in 90’s. Truly, the dmv parents directly involved in their kids’ Greek lives is truly bizarre. Let them figure it out for themselves.
