Replace the skylights with UV glass skylights. When I reroofed I replaced the skylights.

My original skylights made the room brutally hot in summer. Now temps are normal in summer.

Properly made skylights will not transfer radiant IR engery indoors.
Are you imagining it is hot?
Get a thermal device to check.

I have skylights. Not a fan.

They make a paint created to help green houses from taking on extra sun - Kool Ray is the name.

Best to keep heat from getting in house so paint or some sort of material secured on outside good.

Neither of these are easy

I do wish I had solar tubes installed rather than skylights.

I stuff furniture grade foam in the inside.

When you re-roof your house replace the skylights with glass that have SPF. That is what I do every time I re-roof my house.

FYI you probably don't put solar film on skylights or tempered glass doors because the pane heats up.
My skylights turn out to be energy star so will leave them alone.
French doors were hot under the foil. Will use breathable paper or cloth to shade.
Done.

I fear weeks like the past two are going to be common in future years.
We have two big Velux skylights circa 2009 that are on the west side of our roof.
We like the light and sun in winter but I think we need something to reduce heat at times like this.
It's a high cathedral ceiling and no power up there. Too high to reach with poles I think?

We also have French doors to the north facing deck that don't have shades. We really don't want them
I am wondering if there is film I can get professionally installed on the glass such that we can see our but heating from sun is reduced?

Has anyone addressed issues like this? Thanks.
