It was 120 degrees and the parents were probably drunk (the lake is a party place).

Maybe but feel free to roll the dice and find out.

Six weeks is too little. In a few months, sure with shade and cooling off in the water. But I would have a hard time with six weeks, personally. Play at home in the sprinkler so you can have the baby inside with a monitor during naps and you can take frequent ac breaks.

If the other kids are young enough maybe they will enjoy play time in the bath tub?

Call your pediatrician's nurse line and ask.

Remember that babies cannot control their own body temperature very well yet. They don't sweat as much as we do to cool down, and they also dehydrate much, much faster. They will use most of the calories you are feeding them to try to regulate body temperature when in temperature stressed conditions (cold and hot). Infants in extreme heat conditions will need supplemental feeds.

Many of us have BTDT. Babies and older kids is an exhausting combo! Worth it, but exhausting.

Yes, it is too hot to take your baby to the pool or be outside for more than a few minutes with a six week old.

I don't understand. If your older kids are old enough that you could take them to the pool knowing you can't get in, can't they play in the sprinkler with you and the baby inside, watching through the window?

A 6 week old can manage, if they've got a hat, and/or are in the shade, long enough for you to set up a sprinkler or bring the big kids out some lemonade. Or, they could stay in the house while you do those things and bring a baby monitor.

This is a divide and conquer situation. Your DH takes the older kids to the pool, you stay home with the baby.

How long would you have a six week old outside in this weather? Kids want to go to the pool or play in the sprinkler but I’m concerned about the baby.
