After an outing to Kingman Island.
The owner is super nice and I think the wine was homemade. Very sweet, too sweet for me. Warning if you're used to posh suburbs the area might feel rough. I live on Capitol Hill so was fine but have some suburban friends who would be uncomfortable on Benning Road. If you're used to DC it's worth it because the food is great.
Other times I've had tej wine/mead at an Ethiopian friend's house and I'm not sure where she got it.
If you like mead in general, check out Maryland meadworks. It's a cool little place and usually really helpful about making recommendations if you like sweet or less sweet.
