That's not correct. COVID did not end the "sleeping in the dorm" part. I have an older kid who attended a few ID camps pre-covid and there was no sleepovers. Many of these events are offered at Colleges as host, but it has nothing to do with a "College visit" per se.

Once your kid is in 10/11 grade you can schedule (on your own) college visits to the college of your choice.

I believe the only time my kid stayed at dorms was when he was part of the ODP team here in VA and they had camps and games away.

Attended JHU ID camp and have almost certainly crossed the school off of our list. Bad area, no dedicated soccer field, coach was not impressive. But that's what these things are - a chance to get a sense of which schools are a fit.

That’s nice to hear. DS would love JHU but his grades put him out of the running. So far none of his camps offer a tour or meals so he’s not getting a feel for campus or anything but the coaches.

Salisbury had a soccer ID camp that was residential. As PP noted, most schools do not offer overnight camps except for the youth soccer camps like UVA.

There is a difference between a residential camp and an ID camp. Both are money makers for the school. Residential is typically for U11 to U15ish and involves overnight sleeping in the dorms for 2/3 nights. Things have returned to normal since COVID. ID camps are for high schoolers - can start at 8th grade at earliest and some are for sophomore onward. Suggest treating these as "relationship builders" if your kid has a shot at playing for a certain school. Realistically only a handful of kids will stand out. Is your kid one of those? If so, go. If not, save your money. This is a way that schools make money for their soccer programs because they don't really sell tickets to matches like football and basketball. Well, a few powerhouses do, but most do not.

This is helpful to know. I don’t know why it never occurred to me that COVID changed things but that makes sense.
