Ethnic hole-in-the-wall places. We will occasionally do month-long 'global food tours' around the DMV (trying all five Chinese regional cuisines, cuisines of the steppes, cuisines of all of the countries Trump banned in 2017...) - you can pretty much throw a dart at a world map and find that country's/region's food being served somewhere in the area.
Joes Noodle House in Rockville. We’ve been going there for 20 years ever since we moved to the area. Ruan Thai in Wheaton is also good. Several of our favorites are unfortunately closed now.
What are your top 2-3 hidden gem restaurants in the DMV ? Extra points for family-owned local neighborhood go-to’s. Can also include spots that have stood the test of time, good consistent food. I’m tired of hearing about Michelin star restaurants I don’t spend more than $40 per person to eat out and mostly cook at home, but when we eat out, I’d love to have a list that’s a local delight. Any type of food, not picky. Prefer a place that has sit down service, not pure carry out.
