I've been to a few caring transitions auctions/sales where we live. THey seem to do a very good job for people who have some nice things, but not high end estate sale level . Look for reviews of the local ones (as a PP mentioned) as its a franchise.

When we did this with my mom, I went with a local estate sale place.It was fine. DIdnt make much money given the value of some of the items which I should have pulled (the few I did sold well at auction) but they took care of everything which is...priceless.

Caring Transitions is a franchise, so look up reviews of the local one, not the national umbrella organization.

Yes, but not local. My mother was a hoarder and the house had 75 years of family history/stuff in it. First, I went through the house and took everything I wanted. Then I hired an auction company to take whatever they thought they could sell and trash the rest. They also set aside things they thought I might want. I only paid them a portion of the auction sales, and it ended up being an incredible bargain for the amount of work. I could have never done it myself. The realtor I worked with recommended this company.

My family did this last year, used an estate sale company. Ripped off the bandaid and while it was hard while we were going through it, it’s done. I’m sorry for your loss.

I saw this truck driving around Herndon today.

No local experience. We used a service and they did a good job. One room of the parent's home became - items for display that the family might want. When the company was unsure, there was one point of contact representing the family. For the room displayed w/things the family might want, the family had a two week period to show up. All the siblings decides to come at the same time. That's when the more valuable items were portioned out. Overall, it cost us money - meaning the value of what was eventually sold didn't equal their fee but it was well worth it. It was a cost we split between all siblings and so worth it. It was a very complicated property w/many outbuildings, stuffed attics and basements.

We used an estate sale company that did absolutely everything for my father's estate/home in Texas. It made the process so much easier to have them sort through everything, sell what they could, donate what they couldn't, and then sweep out the house.

I believe the crew at Humane Thrift and Gift will do it for the donation of the items.
