I think it would be a great gift.

It's not for me. I'd drape it on the couch, take a pic of me and DH sitting near it, and then donate it. I see that as "handmade crap" even if it's good quality and all.

I'm 48 and in all my years of randomly knowing people who knit or whatever, have only known ONE person who is actually amazing at it to the point I'd wear/use what she makes.

If you’re a good knitter I think this is awesome. One of my aunts crocheted a BEAUTIFUL blanket for my wedding and I still have and use it.

I would create a full blanket, not a throw. Everybody already has too many throw blankets.

If you're doing nice quality yarn that's going to cost a ton.

Not everyone likes things that can't be machine washed.

I'm a knitter, so I get how much goes into a gift like that. I think it's a lovely idea, although I would personally choose a neutral color rather than the wedding colors.

My favorite wedding gift 30 years later is a handmade cookbook a grad school friend made us with about 40 pages filled in and lots of blanks for people to add recipes later. Seriously love it and I’m sure it took her a ton of time to put together and cost her $5 for the journal. We had a very expensive black tie wedding, but appreciated this as special from the moment we opened it.

If you do it right, these kinds of gifts are the most meaningful. I say yes!

A close family member's adult child is getting married. Everyone involved is well off (me, the least relatively speaking but this isn't really about $$) My idea would be more about time and effort vs $$.
I could give a nice check but I really want to knit a fun throw blanket using the wedding colors which are bold and striking. I will do a nice job, use good yarn, and wrap it beautifully.
Is this tacky? Too crafty? Weird?
I am known for knitting family gifts: hats, scarves, wraps, etc.
I am a really good knitter.
