There are many options for housing through LSE - as soon as you sign up for the course and are approved, suggest you find something as it does fill up.

My kid did the LSE summer program for 3 weeks last summer. Absolutely loved it - amazing professor, TA and made friends from all over the world. Got pre-approval from college to count towards electives but as others said cannot boost GPA (got an A worked hard). Good alternative if your kid cannot do a semester/overseas.

Mine did last summer. Many times only a handful attended lecture.

Mine got an A in management course but others who never attended class (and most didn’t) did not. Received credit bc petitioned in advance and found a class that matched the curriculum. Not eligible for major or gpa boost but counted as a credit.

In retrospect wouldn’t have spent the $&$ on class. Just would have gone to live with friends on Europe and travel 2-3 weekends.

They found an Airbnb but others lived in the housing.

OP here. Thanks so much to those who chimed in who have DCs that went through LSE. Can you elaborate on why it is hard to get a good grade? Are the classes very challenging? I know DC would not want to go if the grading will ding his GPA (his sport takes GPA very seriously!!).

Not hard to get into. Harder to get good grades if you care but many don’t. So fun. A lifetime of memories created in a matter of weeks.

My DD just attended the 3 week LSE summer program. She is a rising sophomore at a SLAC and will receive credit for her LSE class if she earns a C or better. She had to get prior approval from her SLAC's study abroad office to accept the credit.
The program is not difficult in terms on admission. I think everyone who wants to attend and can afford it gets in. But if your DC wants credit for the class, it may be challenging depending on the course. Many kids just go for the "experience" of being in London.
My DD loved it - lot$$ of fun. We will see if she earned the credit for the class (I think she will!)

A much better pick would be Imperial College which ranks 6 for Best Global University. LSE is ranked 239

OP-you are far better off arranging this through your kid's college for a number of reasons. Call them and ask. There are a lot of programs that are rackets, especially in London and Oxford; you want to avoid those, especially if you want a few credits out of the summer

LSE is widely known as Let's See Europe. Suggests that admission for the summer programs are not competitive.

My DC's SLAC (DC is incoming freshman) does not have a summer in London but DC wants to do a summer at LSE. Anyone have any experience to share with LSE summer programs? I looked on the LSE website but can't really tell whether it is open enrollment or a selective process.
