I would not want someone living in my house.

I don’t think it avoids those problems in any way?

Well if they’re already in your house, they’re not going to be late due to traffic or weather. They would still work set hours.

I’d pay half of my salary to “have a wife”. Which is what I did when my kids were small.

What is your salary?

What circumstances make you want one? Do you and DH travel a lot for work? Would an au pair work?

I wouldn't. I prefer to parent my children and I prefer my privacy. Maybe a driver and housekeeper if I was that wealthy but not live in.

What is it you’re envisioning? An American live in still works a set number of hours - there’s no (legal) on demand type of live in in the US. Some people accomplish it with rotational nannies (on 24/7 then off for a week) but you’re still paying them for every working hour.

I am all for having lots of paid help but a live-in has never made sense to me. Then they’re just in your house when they’re not working. Even if you have a separate apartment, I would rather they have their own apartment somewhere else. I’d rather buy a car for a nanny than have one live in

American live-in nannies do not expect to be on call 24/7 even though they live in your house. They have working hours and are off outside those unless arranged ahead of time. My understanding is that this is very different in other countries!

Same. I have a live out nanny, and that’s perfect in my opinion. You only need live in if your work hours are weird.

None. Parent your kid (s).

Trying to decide if this is a smart move. Has anyone done this? I grew up with a live in nanny but I still feel weird about it because I don’t see it much around here (at least not in my circle).
