The world rankings are all about research output. My kid is at a "lower ivy", tons of internationals there, so doesn't stop all from knowing. I can see where some may care for some fields if working abroad, but never cared what the "average Joe" thought here or elsewhere. It's a phenomenal education.

?? It’s the truth. Its a merely a denonym for the league of football and lacrosse players that play with one another. Apart from that, it’s a term that’s thrown around the denote a “globally recognized and prestigious college”, of which Dartmouth and Brown are not relative to other schools of similar caliber.

Of course Stanford and Berkeley have better international reputations. The international reputation is highly research dependent. Cal Tech and UChicago are up there with the top4 ivies and Hopkins is pretty high too. Brown and especially Dartmouth are not even close to the rest of the ivies or Michigan or UCLA or many other top flagships. Internationals do not apply to those two in the same high numbers as they chase the other ivies and top flagships

This is true, and validated based on the main world rankings that exist: Brown and Dartmouth are not world class, not even in the top 200 on some. Yale slides some but not as much/ still top 50. The US universities that consistently compete at the top tier of the world stage are MIT, Stanford, Harvard, UPenn, Berkeley Princeton and Columbia

UCLA and Berkeley have a much bigger wow factor than Dartmouth/Brown, etc., which may not carry any brand recognition at all.

The top Ivies, MIT/Stanford and Oxbridge have global brands.

If one were to seek or intend to be employed abroad, would a degree from, say Brown or Dartmouth, be well recognized by employers? Is there a “wow-factor” to the average joe in asian/ european countries, or do more prominent west coast schools like Stanford and Cal Berkeley still have an edge?
