From this site I've become aware of studies and anecdata that campuses that skew female tend to be more hookup culture prone. As a woman, I wouldn't enjoy that.

My grandma went to a selective university when it was about 30 percent female. Pretty amazing to see women becoming the majority in higher ed. A lot of progress for women in 90 years plus strange dynamics among the college-aged male population. It's especially interesting to look at dynamics by major. I work with lots of female engineers and enjoy watching them break through to executive jobs.

50/50 is rare, schools try to do the best they can. Reality is many more female applicants so more female admits and higher qualification than their male counterparts.

Plus tough for the schools given how fluid genders are today.

Most SLACs are at least 55/45, which is the least amount of discrimination against men they think they can get away with.

Discrimination against...you mean for? The LACs bend over backwards for male applicants.

Easy to figure out. Look at the last 4-5 years of CDS. It will tell you what the balance has been in last 5+ years. See the trends.

For ex: if largely STEM/Eng school, odds are it's 70/30 M/F. A few get closer to 60/40 but not many get any closer than that. Not the schools fault. More M want to major in that than women. But you can search for one that is making a concerted effort to balance best they can.

Similarly, for a largely LA school where STEM is not an intensive focus, it will most likely trend Female. But you can find ones that are working hard to balance if that matters to you

I feel like this is a troll post - it’s pretty easy to see M vs. F. Only recently did schools start marking “Other” as an option. You can just Google gender ratios and they give it as a binary.

Agreed, google Common Data Set and the Schoo name and you'll be able to find how many applied/admitted/enrolled by gender.

Quickest way to find this is at IPEDS https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/

Search the college and click the enrollment tab. There's a giant pie chart for gender. See also the admissions tab for acceptance rate by gender.

It's also in the CDS, but often by # rather than percent. IPEDS saves you the trouble of calculating percent.

My DD said she'd prefer to attend a college that is balanced by gender (50/50 ideal or 55/45 ok, but doesn't want to attend a 70/30-ish split).

I know schools publish recent class composition, but many have 10% not declaring gender so it's a bit confusing. Is there somewhere on the CDS or other place where they mention if they balance for gender or just let the chips fall and get some classes that will be skewed in one direction?
