Then there is definitely inflated grades at TJ.

How does it matter? grade inflation is relative and colleges know it. for instance, UVA does not even open applications from TJ with less than 4.4 GPA.

PE as P/F is helpful not to hurt weighted gpa only if student expects straight As in all other courses. Otherwise, PE with letter grade A is needed to boost the unweighted gpa when student has Bs or Cs.

In other words, take PE as P/F if all other courses are expected to be As. Take PE for letter grade and score an A, if there is a chance of not earning A in any other course.

Would PE count when colleges are looking at GPA? Some take it P/F to boost GPA but does it matter?

No. Those classes as not like an AP. They are weighted 4.5. Not 5.0. And you have to take language and PE and design and tech, which are all weighted 4.0. I’m a TJ parent.

I’ve come to the conclusion that posts like this aren’t from anyone in TJ or parents thereof.

I will explain why.

Freshman year the kids that have already taken Geometry take Research Stats and 1 and Math 3.

Math 3 is algebra 2 taught in half the year and research stats is also taught in half a year. When you look at the weighting- it’s like taking and AP math class your freshman year.

Your freshman year- you can get a 4.3 GPA without any AP classes.

Heck. With gym and art you can get a 4.28 GPA. In your freshman year.

It’s like they are just trying to make themselves feel better about being at the base school, but let’s be very clear: these kind of posts are not from actual TJ parents.

4.3 at TJ not iffy. Close to top 1/3. And 1400? No one atTJ gets 1400. Average SAT is 1530. Average.

I think they mean to get admitted.

I don't know what the GPA is from base schools but 4.3 at TJ is kind of iffy even with a 1500 sat score.
You seem to be more likely to be accepted with a 4.5GPA and 1400 SAT than a 4.3 GPA and 1520 SAT

The highest GPA is lower at TJ than the base high school, the most reason are below:

First, the courses at TJ are harder, deeper, challenger, and rigor. It is not easy to get an A grade at TJ courses, especially at math, chemestry, and physics. So, even if a student takes all AP courses and post AP courses at TJ in four years, it is impossible to get all A grade at TJ.

Second, at TJ, the school does not permit , at least not encourages students to take one AP or Honor courses at online campus after regular 7 school day courses to improve students' GPA, because the school thinks that the regular TJ courses at school have been very hard and very heavy for students, next, the online courses are too easier than TJ courses, so school does not permit to take online courses if JT also supply that courses. But, at Fairfax county base school, any students can take up to 2 AP courses at Fairfax online campus during school year as long as students want to take.

In a word, at base school, students more easily to get A grade at all AP courses, and can take more AP courses by taking online courses during 4 school years to biggest increase their GPA than the students at TJ.
