Don't know but saw in the Blair magnet 4.74 is the bottom 15%.

for real?

It’s because everything almost all of them take is weighted until phys ed. So my rising senior has a 5.0 WGPA and 4.0 GPS. A 4.74 means a a significant number of Bs, which with grade inflation is not that normal for that group.

A 5.0 is not the norm at all. If your kid takes h.s. math or language in middle school, there are 4.0 grades; if your kid takes band first year, there are 4.0 grades. Tech only has 1 honors option. 4.9 is about the highest I have heard of at end of Sr year, and that was a stellar student.

My freshman ended year with 4.8 and was told many ended the year the same. She estimate her in top 20%. Basically she had all A's all year. My senior started this way and graduated with a 4.2.

As others have said, it's both impossible to know how it compares and, if you are asking to give a sense of college admissions chances, not yet indicative of how the grades will be viewed. Many strong BCC students will have come into HS having taken Algebra 1 and World Languages in Middle School. Those classes aren't weighted and so make it look like their weighted GPA is below that of someone who started MCPS in 9th grade and has virtually all honors classes.

More importantly, what really matters is the rigor level of the classes taken. An A in Honors American History looks the same as APUSH in a weighted GPA, but reflect different degrees of success. And 11th grade classes, when to students are taking 4-5 AP/IB classes, is when the rubber really hits the road and previously straight A students might see their first B.

So the bottom line is this: if your kid is taking the most rigorous schedule offered and getting straight As, then they are absolutely in the running to be in the top 10% of the class, but it is highly likely that more than 10% of the rising juniors at BCC currently have at least a 4.7 WGPA

It is fine, but I expect at later years you see more differentiation. With honors for all it is not so hard to be way about a 4.0 at end of sophomore year, even with a few B’s and limited AP classes.

It’s great he is doing well, but the next few years will be much more telling.

You do see some kids fall off by end of sophomore year, but the “front of the pack” is still very very big at that point.

4.7 was the top 3rd of applications to UMD at our W school this past year.

My DC is 4.6. Not bcc but no where near the top of the class. Maybe in the top half but not confident in that

Grade inflation at MCPS high schools is real. My boss was just bragging how his MCPS kid has "over a 4.0 GPA". This is a kid at WJ. Over a 4.0 doesn't even get you in the top half of the class.

I doubt it is top 10%, but, as somebody else posted it is hard to know. If I were betting money I'd say between top 20%. Grade inflation is real at MCPS. Anybody know what the highest possible GPA is for a student at BCC?

In 2020, it would have been top 29%, but in MCPS that’s about as precise as you’ll ever get. This is the most granular data they publish.
