It’s on my kid’s list bc the cost is amazing in state and they have friends there. They are a little nervous it’s a hard partying school.

I was an IR major there in the 90s. It wasn’t super grindy, but with exception of the (excellent) Writing Sems program was fairly pre-professional. It probably wasn’t the best “fit” for me but I think I grew a lot in finding my own fit, and I had plenty of fun there. I like the campus a lot and think Baltimore is an underrated little city in some ways, especially if you are smart about where u go.

Immediate parts around campus are also safe but downside is there are some sketchy parts of Bmore if you travel a few miles away from campus. On the plus side, there are also amazing college student and tourist friendly parts too like inner harbor, harbor east, fed hill, fells point that are hipster deeper into baltimore. Proximity to towson mall as well.
Campus is gorgeous but it can get cold during winter with snow.

It's not a grinder school anymore since they switched presidents about a decade ago. It has massive grade inflation now (average GPA is a 3.8) and students seem a lot happier.

It's a great place that actually spends money, so facilities can be top notch. If you're outside of STEM, the culture is way better!

We toured it yesterday along w DC schools last week and it really shines. So many new facilities, lovely grounds, so much money and research opportunists.
It was really one of the prettiest campuses we’ve seen, which surprised me.
What’s the downside? Is it still a grinder school? Kid would be majoring in something like international relations, def not pre med.
