Its fine for that age especially if they are just learning to do roller coasters. It tends to have smaller ones which are great training. The age for Legoland max enjoyment is 12 and under.

Went to Legoland NY last fall with my now 10 year old DS. I agree with the PPs who mentioned the lack of shade — be prepared with hats, sunscreen etc. The water park area wasn’t open when we went (too late in the season).

The Legoland hotel is really cute if you’re able to stay there.

We went last summer with our 7yo. We had a blast. Reserve the bigger splash play area on arrival (not sure the 3yo can go in there). Generally, take a look and see how many rides your kids can go on. But we had a great time. Yes it was hot.

And to add about wait times. We went on a Tuesday when most NY schools were still in session, so every ride was a walk on except for the one where you steer a boat. It isn’t on any sort of track, so peoples’ boats get turned around and stuck and the line moves really slowly because of it.

The New York one has no tree cover, because it only opened a few years ago and they cleared out all the trees to build it. Maybe in a decade or two when the freshly planted trees mature there will be more shade than the little umbrellas and shade screens they currently have set up.

We were just there when it was 92 degrees and humid. There is little to no shade because it’s so new and the trees haven’t grown in. The park is built into a hill with a few flights of stairs in between. They just opened a sky liner, which will help. My kids are the same age. There were a handful of rides that were 42” and up, so my 3 year old missed a few. Otherwise, the park is catered toward the 8 and under crowd.

Book the splash area for an early time slot. Once you use that reservation, you can book it again. You get 20 minutes of access and then they clear it out and let the next group in. We used it twice, and it was a great relief from the unrelenting sun. Keep in mind the only locker rentals we saw were at the top of the hill in the build and test lab. If there were lockers near the splash area, the employees we asked were not aware of it. We ended up carrying towels around all day.

The Legoland Hotel was fun, but we’re pretty sure we picked up norovirus from their lego pits, which made for a fun drive home.

That's mostly because NY is far more humid than CA.

I have only been to the San Diego (Carlsbad) Legoland, but there were sprayground areas there the kids could play in, and lots of shade/covered areas. Carlsbad isn't exactly cool.

I loved Legoland -- by far my favorite amusement park. Have fun.

I’m not big on theme parks but we are going to Legoland with family when we visit NY. Kids are 3 and 5. Any tips for surviving a day at Legoland NY in the July heat? How are the attractions for this age and are there any that have shorter lines?
