Our kid was like that with Dogman, and his teachers told us that as long as he was reading a book, it was fine, he'd grow out of it, and he did. As long DS is find happiness in a book, you're winning.

Reading is supposed to be fun. Would you like someone telling you what to read? Say you hate history and I demand you read every book about the Civil War.

I have this exact same problem OP, with my daughter (8). It's ALL she'll read. At least she calls herself "an Andrea", but it's still so annoying. I'm really trying to pick my battles on this though. I suggest new books regularly but if it's all she wants, I'm not going to start policing her leisurely reading.

Make a book list for required reading if you want, with assignments or mandatory discussion, but I think you have to leave reading for pleasure alone.

The problem is there are like 8,000 books in the series, so if I take him to the library he will ALWAYS find one he hasn't read yet and look at nothing else.

It could be worse-Diary of a Wimpy Kid worse. Mine enjoys both and I find there are actually hidden lessons in the Weird School books whereas Diary of a Wimpy Kid is just straight poor behavior with no consequences.

I find them so obnoxious. The main character hates school, is constantly a behavioral issue, and it’s very poorly written prose.
Trying to get him into something else but he would literally rather re-read the same Weird School books rather than try reading something new.
