This is exactly right. The official dmv practice tests are the EXACT same questions and answer choices.

13:31 here, not the poster you are responding to. After he passed his permit test, my oldest took the entire package (online class and BTW) through I Drive Smart. He took online PE so we had to find a private class. He said the online class was very valuable and he learned a lot. He suggested we enroll our other kids in the complete package when the time comes, even if they take PE at school. Teen boys don’t say much and that’s about as good as a recommendation as you can get. Don’t judge a program you don’t know much about.

My DD failed using the online study guides and then studied from the book after she failed and she passed.
TONS of really smart kids fail the first time. This is so not a big deal and not worth of all the stress you are giving yourself and him.

It sounds like he did everything he should have done, so my sympathies, OP. My DD said that the wording in the test at the DMV was virtually identical to the practice problems she did on line in the practice tests, so I think he should focus on those for his re-take.

Try talking through hypotheticals based on the book but not exactly as written in the book. Take him around where there’s not much traffic, say quick what do I do if x… Then keep driving and talk through different answers and why they would be wrong or right. Ex you see a stop sign ahead, yell quick tell me what to do at the stop sign. He needs to say stop completely and know who to yield to. Or you say ok that imaginary car across the street was there first, can I go now? Or quick there’s an imaginary bus coming with it’s lights on, do I need to stop or can I keep driving? He should be able to answer and tell you when he stops vs keeps going (divided Highway vs yellow line, etc).If he doesn’t know tell him to look up the answer while you keep driving around and then you discuss and try the same/similar scenario again later until he gets it without looking. This way he’ll remember hey mom asked me about the bus, what did the book say about that?

Can you take a look at the questions he got wrong? Is there any pattern to the difficulties? I would start there.
While you are driving around, have him sit in front seat and explain like a sports announcer what traffic rules you are acting on at the time.

My son failed his learner's permit test by 1 question so he has to retake it in 15 days. I'm not sure how to have him better prepared. He has ADHD so things come slowly to him. He studied daily for 2.5 weeks.
He (1) studied the full paper manual, (2) did quizlets on signs, (3) did the The Driver's License Study Guide that contains all of the content in the print version manual along with many practice questions to reinforce the material and prepare users for the Driver Traffic Signs and General Knowledge tests, and (4) did ALL the practice tests here https://www.epermittest.com/virginia/practice-permit-test
What else should he do to pass it on the 2nd try? What is the best site for VA practice tests. He's so discouraged and worried he will never pass. To be honest, I am too.
