Nothing major at all. In the shot you can see normal car traffic going through, etc. Place de Republique is the "default" place for protests like these. Nothing like the "Gilets Jaunes protests" which were very widespread and included significant property damage, etc.

It's very small far left protests. They always like to break and burn shit. Not really of consequence for anyone other than if your car is the one burning.

We have family friends there right now and they say its easily avoidable.

This is happening more or less constantly in Paris. It is NOT a big deal.

It's.not that deep. Just stay away from protests. They are in a few block area.

I'm heading to Paris on Wednesday. Thought I would just share this security alert. I plan to exercise caution but am not overly worried.

There are reports of clashes between police and protesters over the last several hours in Paris, France, near the vicinity of Goncourt subway station, Place de la République, Passerelle des Douanes and Palais des Glaces. Riot police have been deployed to these areas and reportedly fired tear gas rounds to disperse the crowds. Protesters have since congregated in other nearby areas. Similar instances of unrest have also been reported in Lyon and Rennes, France. Protests are occurring across France following the release of poll results for the first round of French parliamentary elections, including in Angers, Bordeaux, Marseille, Nanterre, Nantes, Nice, Rennes and Tours.

It is advised to avoid these areas and minimize movements near Place de la Bastille, Place de la Nation and Place de la République, and other common protest areas, especially in the late evenings when clashes or unrest as a result of protest activity typically occur. Similar protests and clashes are expected at the following locations across Paris in the coming days: Place Juliette Greco, Place Juliette Greco, Stalingrad, Place de la Bastille, Place de la Nation, Place de la République, Bourse du Travail, Boulogne-Billancourt, Rue de la Grange aux Belles, Eglise Saint-Augustin, Boulevard Haussmann, the Israeli embassy and the US Embassy. Expect traffic disruptions, follow all directives from local authorities, and expect similar protest activity and clashes in these areas in the coming hours and days.
