I don’t really understand how to works. If someone insults me I assume they don’t like me and/or are ruse and I stay away. Why would I want that person’s approval?

I did see it work once it real life but it was a mix of rudeness with over the top flirting. I was very surprised by it all.

I like it when people poke fun at me. The guy I am seeing does this. It’s TOTALLY different from the way my ex would do it. My ex would do it when I was already upset. This fella does it differently as I was to raise another perspective and to point out when I am being too full of my self. It’s all about intent.

OP here. I didn't waste my breath with the "tell him he's an ass" part, because if he doesn't already know that about himself, it's not my job to teach him.

But yeah, he's cut from the team. I'm just wondering what the mentality is, because it makes no sense to me.

Specifically, why is this a thing men do to women they're interested in being with? Am I supposed to defend myself against the neg? Am I supposed to find a man who insults me more attractive or "stronger" in some way?

I really don't get this approach as a dating/relationship strategy.
