Can we please stop talking about calories in calories out and willpower when it comes to consumption of processed food products and sugar?

All calories are not the same. Our brains and endocrine systems are being hijacked by Big Food and the chronic illnesses they are giving us are being treated by their subsidiaries in Big Pharma and Big Medicine.

Exactly.

But buckle up, people on this forum will start screaming that the calories in they’re McDonalds cheeseburger are good enough, thank you very much.

I brought up this topic before, the fact that when I’m in Europe I lose weight, not gain it because the quality of food is better. In US I gain weight.

But there was a wall of responses about calories counting. These idiots don’t get it.

What exactly are you eating in the US? Serious question. If you are eating just whole foods, mostly plants, how are you gaining weight?

But I'd also love if American culture didn't expect people to work so much so it would be easier to prepare healthy meals at home without relying on processed foods for convenience because people are so pressed for time.

I'd also love if schools took the quesiton of healthy eating seriously and stopped offering absolute garbage to kids on a daily basis. Not even talking about school lunches (but yes those are bad) but just all the candy and junk food schools often hand out all the time because it's easy and convenient.

And finally I'd love it if we could adopt a healthcare system that focused more on preventative care including healthy eating rather than just waiting for people to develop horrible illnesses as a result of their garbage diets and then spending billions trying to mitigate the consequences.

Yes +10000
It is the number one culprit that is making it harder for parents to instill good eating habits at home.

This is true. But harder != impossible. That BS defeatist talk.

Even when I buy a wild salmon filet from Costco, I wonder it has been drenched in something chemical or if the plastic packaging leaks endocrine disrupting chemicals into the food.

How will you explain our food supply problems when our US fed olympians dominate the gold count this summer? And, a huge percentage of those athletes are amateurs cranking through on their own well before they get sucked into games prep by our Olympic program. Where do you think they get their food? Some super secret store in Omaha Nebraska?

The dumb things people come up with to explain away their own laziness is amazing. Eat real food. There is plenty of it in the US. And particularly here in the DC area.

This requires the US to stop putting profits and capitalism above all. And that's never going to happen.

Nobody here actually says that. So that’s the problem you have.

What people here actually write is that these foods are terrible for you. And they recognize that people are lazy and manage to eat way out of energy balance because of the hyper palatable content. So it’s eating garbage and eating too many calories because of the garbage. And on top of that the nutrient profile is terrible.

Grocery stores here are full of crap. If the produce is organic, it's genetically modified.
Going to grocery store here is like going to rain forest with machete looking for real food.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. How is it possible for any amateur athlete to survive in that rain forest? Yet, they manage to rest real food, even on a budget.

It’s always some other exogenous force and not your own lack of effort.

CNN is behind the times. Everyone already knows about ultra-processed foods. Choose better sites to read.

Wow, nobody knows anything about this. What an amazing discovery you have stumbled on here. Nobody knew processed food and excess sugar was a problem until you posted this and demanded we “stop talking about calories in and calories out.”

How about this. Stop eating that garbage. Maybe put in some work to make your own food from real food? It’s all expensive AF now anyways.

The idea that this is some vast conspiracy is hilarious. The very same food scientists and big pharma scientists that are allegedly part of the grand conspiracy are also obese with poor metabolic health at least close to the same percentages as the population level.

It’s always the same store with everything. It’s somebody else fault.
