I would reaffirm what the PPs said: totally worth it for the woman if you have money. Meaning own house, travel as much as during marriage, a rewarding career.

So worth it. So very worth it. For the peace of mind and heart if nothing else. I feel so free. And even with the hassles for dealing with a divorce, I expend less emotional and physical energy every day.

I’m a 50 DW. Divorced at 45. So much happier. I’m not in another relationship and am not seeking a “serious” one or remarriage. I now think it astonishing how much emphasis I put on this one type of relationship - and how much control I haven’t it and my DH in how I felt about myself and my life. There is such koolaid around it, and when you free yourself from drinking it - it’s very freeing.

If you are in abusive marriage like many are, getting out is definitely better.
As far as money, ex wasn't good at managing it. Whatever he made, he also spent. I invested the minute I left him and all is good.

I have two friends who divorced in their 40s, did the single mom life for a few years, and are now remarried and living well.

It’s great. I’m finally free. At 47, dating life is fantastic. Did you know that many younger men in their 30s are looking to date women my age? I’m doing better post-divorce than my ex husband. Life is so much better.

It's been awful but being married was also awful. It's not really something I recommend to have a better life. It's something you do when you don't have a choice to live in safety and sanely anymore. My ex was an addict and I just couldn't live with the unpredictability every day. My life didn't become easier though with less money and it's not like there are tons of people just waiting to be your friend and date at that age. My life is more stable. That's the best I can say from it.

Would love to hear from anyone who did this or have close friends who did - and how it worked out/ are you/ they glad you did it/ how are you2 they doing now?
