We did this and have two. I like it. We also have kids. I got the round washable ruggable rug for under table. I have two and swap the out as needed.

I think I would do two or just a living area rug.

If you do one big one, I would do sisal or something neutral like that, cut to 12-18” all around.

But that would be hard/impossible to keep clean, so I’d go back to having two or just one in the living area.

Personally with kids I’m not putting rugs under dining tables anywhere.

I have this set up. I have two rugs. I like how each rug separates and defines the space. The colors are similar but the patterns are different.

PP. I like separate rugs for this. They can even be the same rug pattern but show wood in between. To define the space.

So I vote one large rug just for the family room- 10x14?

Agree with PP. Rugs under an everyday table will get gross.

I've got an open living and dining room space in my condo. Not huge, probably 17 x 12 feet. Would you get two separate rugs, one for the living room "space" and one for dining, or just giant rug for the whole room? Latter is simpler, but lots of people seem to prefer the former to create some semblance of spaces/rooms. Thoughts?
