With Curie, it is year long with both English and Math on a weekly routine. Students go through an upfront placement test, and are recommended to enroll in their advanced or regular grade level track. DC was placed in advanced track, but their friend with borderline placement was given the choice to enroll in regular track. There are summer bridge classes to move from regular to advanced, not sure how effective they are.

Curie curriculum moves rather quickly and builds on previous topics. There are monthly assessments that provide feedback on how well the student is grasping the content. Parent involvement is demanded, to ensure student completes homework assignments and answers are checked Parents receive the assessment reports and they initiate a conversation if they find the student slipping. There is a review week before assessment, during which relevant class recordings are accessible.

DC is enrolled in the program, but one of their friend dropped out as they found the pace wasnt a good fit and quite demanding. They were offered to move down a level, but declined. There are also science and stem skills classes that are conducted every other week, and writing classes are conducted in small groups.

I know AoPS and RSM have placement evaluations that you must complete before starting, at least for their in-person and online real time classes. DS had a Zoom evaluation for AoPS in 3rd grade and then a Zoom evaluation for RSM in 4th grade, we switched programs to cut down on commute time. DS had to complete a test for the math competition class at RSM and was recommended by his teacher to move into RSM's National Math Competition program as a 6th grader.

DS did not have to complete an evolution to sign up for the online AoPS AMC8 course this summer. The class did recommend that students have scored above a specific score to participate in the class but did not require proof that this had happened. DS had so we are comfortable with his placement.

I think the in-person classes, whether it be physically in-person or a Zoom class, require evaluations and online taught classes, no video only discussion boards, do not.

I have no experience with Curie.

RSM doesn’t have an English class. The different programs have different approaches to math so it depends on your child, how they learn, and where they are in math.

These three choices get discussed alot on this forum. For middle school English and Math enrichment, which one works best year long?
