I closed my office for the day. It doesn't make sense to me to make everyone work. Might as well give them a long weekend to actually enjoy themselves.

Sure. I don't have much PTO and am saving for a week in August with my family.

I work in a law office and they only give us the bare minimum of holidays. Nearly everyone is taking the day off, but I decided I might as well save a PTO day. There's not going to be anything to do so it'll be a blow off day.

Why would they want people to travel and spend money here?

They want butts in seats and for people to commute and spend their money on lunches downtown. They can't have it both ways...

Not here, but when when a holidays over there falls on a Thursday or Tuesday.

I'm a contractor for the federal government. Our offices will be open and there will be work. Those who have leave to take will take the day off. But there are many people who do not have leave balances or are saving their leave for other times more important for them, so I'd say we'll have somewhere between 30-50% of the work force working. That said, since nothing significant will be scheduled in the labs and office, I'd say many of them will work from home. So there will be only a skeleton crew in the office/labs, mostly folks who have to work on equipment they need to work with physically or large data that takes too long to transmit over VPN.

I'll be working unless they decide to close the office. My wife has off.

Nope. I thought about it, to save the vacation day for fall when the kids have random days off, but...they have this one off too, and July 4-5 will be my first weekdays home with them all summer. Too tempting.

Work is open, though.

Is anyone going to work on July 5th?

Is your office open on the 5th? In Argentina, they will give us a Bridge holiday so people can go travel and spend$$$$$$. I am not sure why don't do that in USA.
PRE-COVID 2019... I remember taking the Metro and it only a few people rode it that day.
