For us (2 parents, 2 kids), our favorite spring break trips have been...
Moab, Utah (hiking, biking, paddleboarding, UTVs)
Sevierville, Tenn (hiking, whitewater rafting, zorbing, Dollywood, shows)
Puerto Rico (hiking, kayaking, lots of beach activities, segways)
New York City (all the tourist sites, museums, shows)
Ruidoso, NM (and tack on a trip to White Sands)

We loved Hilton head over spring break, and went to California (LA one year)

Coronado Island, CA and Tahoe, CA (although we did them separately given the distance). yup! PR is on the list. How expensive is PR once you get there? Like US prices for food/activities or more/less expensive?

For the past two years we have traveled internationally for spring break and done US travel during the summer. Next year we are doing an international trip in summer so would like to stay US bound for spring break. I would prefer not to go to Florida and we are from Arizona and Texas so we have been to those places enough. We also have been to California a few times but aren't entirely opposed to going again.

But what have your favorite US based spring break trips been? We aren't skiers but generally into most anything else. Love hiking, museums, amusement parks, nature, cities, food etc.
