I felt bad for the girls who stalled their lives and didn't make it, or the ones who stunted what could have been professional growth to aim for it, year after year. Also the one who quit college. They should mandate these girls have a degree like some professional sports do (and certainly if the NFL does...I don't recall if that is the case).

The orthodontist was so interesting to me. But I think she's better off and she did say she cheered for another team.

I don't see many going on to professional careers in dance, because they are physically beat up at the end if they've done this for 4+ years. But for the superstars I do suppose they could go on to coach or work in the NFL leading cheerleaders, or maybe start their own dance studio. That would bring significant cache and legitimate experience to a small town dance studio to say you were a DCC for a few years.

I haven't finished the series but I was gobsmacked at how they so obviously kept cutting Black and Brown girls. I mean I'm not, because this is Texas, but wow. It was pretty much an indictment of the entire system to say "the look really matters!" and "sorry, Black/brown girl, it isn't your year" in the same breath, many times over.

Sports and media entertainment pays peanuts for all functions - dancers, finance ppl, marketing, law, corporate, event planners.

They have a line out the door of people who want a “sexy” job at ESPN or dallas cowboys or monument sports, etc. Then comp stays low.

Monument is not the same level. They wish they were.

It seems to really vary among the women. Many of them have full time, good jobs already (in finance, medicine, pharma sales, etc) and do this on the side. The younger ones seem to be split between just doing something fun for a few years before real life starts, finding a rich husband, and using it as a stepping-stone to do more dance-related jobs (some of the guest choreographers recruit for backup dancers for national tours, etc).

One of the judges for the tryouts was a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader who is now the head coach for the Jaguars cheerleaders, but I imagine jobs like that are few and far between.

But the craziest part might be the mega church the girls are filmed at. God Loves Dallas! God Loves the Dallas Cowboys! Must be preaching from the King Jerry Jones Version.

I bet they don’t get health insurance to cover these expenses!

Sad really. Have we come very far with this in society? Hard to tell.

Allowing women to control their own bodies and lifestyles?

Yeah, no. I won’t watch.

It’s a $9 billion dollar industry, (Dallas Cowboys being the richest in the world) that pays its cheerleaders around $15-20 per hour, about $22,500 on average annually.

I hope they got paid to make the documentary.

Allegedly $12 / hr and $400 per appearance. I enjoyed thr show but was really turned off by Charlotte. It’s just greed - why else wouldn’t you pay them a salary especially when they ruin their bodies over the quintessential cheerleader jump split!
