Agent here. It depends-newer agents or agents that don't do much business typically will keep 50% of the commission. Experienced agents that do a lot of business-typically 85-90 percent. It also varies depending upon the brokerage.

In looking over the paperwork from my house sale last year, I saw that our buyer's agent made about $25,000 representing us in our purchase. How much of that does he/she actually see? i.e. what goes to the real estate firm vs. what did he/she earn for them themselves? (this is not a post to complain about realtor compensation....I am just nosy/curious)
