I watched it with dd. She found it depressing to the point of being unwatchable. To me it was bittersweet. Dh's grandparents died back to back not long ago and it felt close to home in terms of how physically and mentally fragile and sad older years are, and how that is a fact, no matter how loving your family is, what set up you have (home, nursing home...). So I appreciated some aspect (acting was great, plot was well-paced, good to see older people on film), but ultimately, it's loneliness and death at the end.

Just watched this on Hulu. It was really wonderful. My college-aged sons and my husband and I all really enjoyed it. Check it out if you haven't seen it!

Totally agree! I saw Thelma on Friday (did not stay through the credits though) and have been recommending to everyone I know.

We saw the new movie Thelma yesterday - the one with June Squibb, Parker Posey, and Clarke Gregg. It was WONDERFUL.

There's a lot of complaints about how so few movies are made on the human scale now - not superheroes or action movies; not sequels or other IP. This is a very human scale movie. About a 90-something woman who gets scammed out of $10k and sets out to get it back from the scammer. It's a slow moving action movie - about older people figuring out who they are at this stage of life; navigating families, death, friends, changing bodies and minds. But it's also hilarious. Surprising, hilarious, warm, humane, wonderful.

Go see it. I promise you will have a good time.

Stay through the credits! There's a scene midway through them that you don't want to miss.
