If she doesn't make a lot of money, why make her pay for your meals.

No, and especially not if my kid wasn’t paying for anything

no, but i'm the child of immigrants. the idea of a younger generation paying for an older generation is not something people from my culture would ever accept. surprised by how many responses here said they'd even let the child's significant other pay for a meal.

I agree with the above but also want to add that it depends on everyone's financial circumstances and what expectation was laid out in advance.

If you're retired and living on a fixed income, and they know that, and you said prior to the trip that you'll pay for XYZ and they'll be expected to cover ABC, then yes.

I've taken day trips to the waterparks with my daughter, grandsons, and sil, where I've purchased the tickets and food and never expected reimbursement. He's always offered me drinks or snacks if he's going to the concession stand and that's more than enough.

Only if I disliked them and had no desire or expectation to travel with them and my adult child in the future

I agree, too. I just got back from a trip with DD, 26, who doesn't make a lot of money. She paid for a few meals and that's all I expected.

I would not, but agree that it's nice that they offered. It would enhance my opinion of them.

Would you accept reimbursement for a family trip from your adult child's significant other?
