My son will also only wear jammers in the ocean. No chafing. If kids are active in the water, they can get chafing more easily with trunks.

My son preferred his jammers everywhere, including lakes and beaches, until he was about 13. Now he wears trunks if it’s “recreational” swim. Agree with pp it’s important to buy trunks with good liners, not with the open mesh that looks like nets because that can be harsh on their privates (sorry)

Jammers was all her would wear until we discovered Fairharbor swim trunks. Normal trunks for men are awful at the beach. Jammers much more comfortable.

Tech suits work very well in the ocean too. Mizuno especially makes their suits to be great in salt water

My kids always preferred jammers EXCEPT when at the beach. They found the sand got stuck btwn the suit and their skin and chafed something AWFUL. With trunks they could rinse it off better.

Jammers are fine! I would get some “practice jammers” (aka not the team suit) so his team suit doesn’t get super faded by the sun and sand. Most kids can wear them for at least two years at that age

Jammers do? Really? Heck I can't even tell that they're not swim trunks from a distance, at a beach. And I'm not really paying much attention to anyone else's kids other than my own anyways.

I would think it wouldn't really matter, especially as they're in the water most of the time anyways.

I don’t know about jammers specifically, but my DD won’t wear her team suits to the beach because salt water and sand do affect them. She has separate suits for vacations.

Yea - this is common. I wouldn't have him wear his team (meet) jammers in case something happens - but practice ones? Sure. DS did this until he was about 15y and then stopped wearing them unless he was practicing/competing.

Completely forgot to ask our swim team friends about this last week. But--

We're going on vacation down to the Gulf next week, and my son has requested that we pack only his jammers, instead of his trunks for the beach, for the whole week. He's very new to swim team, but since the season has been going along, I guess he's grown more and more used to wearing jammers? And now pretty much forgoes wearing swim trunks, even when we're just swimming casually at a backyard pool or something.

Is this OK? Anyone have experience with this? I'm paranoid that salt water will wreak havoc on his (rather expensive!) team suits. Or cause crazy chafing, with all the sand, or...something?
