I only buy the precut ones which of course are more expensive but you can see which are super red inside.

Yes. I've had three and all have been sweet and crisp. I learned the secret to choosing sweet watermelon from Willard Scott when he was on the Today show. Here it is:

Take a strand of real straw (hardware store in my area carries straw brooms. The fake straw won't work) and lay it on melon and if the straw starts moving in a circle then its sweet. This method has never failed and I've been using it for years. Obviously, you need to put melon on a flat surface.

Correct you want to do

uniform size and heavy - not elongated
dull- not shiny
large brown spot- not white spot
check that you can fit two fingers or so on the darker green areas
make sure there is sufficient webbing from the stem

I picked up some already cubed watermelon at Lidl on the way somewhere, and it was delicious

I’ve had a few good ones from Wegman’s. We eat a ton of watermelon every summer and the best ones are always in June.

Yep from all over: HT, Costco, WF.

How are you picking your watermelons OP?

I purchased one from a farm on the Delaware shore and 2 from Trader Joe’s. Normally, I’ve found Trader Joe’s to have some of the sweetest ones in the past but no more.

I’ll try one of your suggestions. Thanks!

Same here. Plums and watermelons have been watery, Georgia peaches delicious.
