Technically if each individual piece was within the limit, she did nothing wrong.

OP here. It was $6600. Most of the items were exceeding the $500. I’m just annoyed she did not let me know about a purchase this large.

That is A LOT for baby furniture, did she get everything she needs or is there still stuff missing? Did she buy qualify or cheap stuff with an expensive label?

That is a very large amount for nursury furniture, I agree! But you are coming off as a controlling jerk using the authorization language. What you said here makes more sense.

That amount could cause an issue in many households where they move money between accounts and depending on when the cc is due... if you didn't have a heads up. Yikes.

+1

I'd be ok of OP said "She didn’t give me a heads up first" since they have an agreement to discuss large purchases but AUTHORIZATION?!

NTA. That’s a lot of money to spend on furniture. I can’t imagine not running it by my husband if I were planning to do that! (Also, we furnished our nursery in finest secondhand ikea because we were young and poor!)

His wording is off but most people take their spouse's input before making a big financial decision.

That being said, you can't reason with a first time prego and live happily so let it go but rationally discuss importance of making bug decisions together, as being parents y'all have to be more responsible and will face more issues worth a mutual brainstorming.

OP here. I don’t think my wording was off. It may come across as harsh but is isn’t. We both are free to spend whatever we want, but bigger purchases over $500 are always given a heads up and authorization by each other. This allows us to keep our budget under control and not overspend.

Lol OP. They will all tell you it's because she's pregnant and you should back off. You don't sound very smart posting that here.

OP here. That’s not me. We don’t have a baby ( yet) and she hasn’t spent anything on herself outside of her regular expenses.

OP here. I’m not a troll. The total was $6600.

We can spend freely but anything over $500 requires authorization and a heads up to each other.

I’m not sure if I am in this situation or if I’m the right. My wife is pregnant and her spending has been a lot more than usual. We have a max spending limit, and anything above that needs authorization from spouse. My wife went to ahead and ordered all the nursery furniture and it totaled a ridiculous high amount. She didn’t get any authorization from me first, or give me a heads up. We can afford the purchase but I’m still upset that she spent way more than I feel is appropriate for nursery items. She is now upset with me for being upset with her.
