How are you making kid clean the trash? Would you take away cellphone/electronics? Kid doesn’t care. Threaten to cancel vacation? Kid doesn’t care. And I mean they will fully lay on the bed or sit & stare at the wall for days rather than do whatever you are forcing, while the garbage rots & stains your furniture & rugs.

NP—thank you for posting this. People that don’t have kids like this are infuriating when they comment. They assume that we’re not parenting our kids or just letting them do whatever they want. They have no idea what we’re dealing with.

Sometimes it is not possible to compel a child to do things like this. I know it wouldn’t be possible with my ASD kid. She’d just curl into a ball and scream cry. In the middle of the mess.

Try an in home parent training with a professional, you’re well beyond talk therapy working for this situation.

Yes. We are living through this hell too. Thank you to the poster who wrote about At Peace Parents.

Meds. Is he on meds? He should be. I say this as a parent to an ASD tween who is on meds who has nowhere near the level of behavior your kid displays.

Google At Peace Parents and see if it feels like a match for "equalizing behavior".

Hugh functioning ASD teen frequently had tantrums and intentionally destroys things. We were supposed to have company last night and he didn’t like that I wouldn’t get him chick fil a so he took bags of trash into the house and dumped them out in the living room. He does things like this. He also has called 911 once and swatted us claiming DH was an intruder. Has anyone seen wild behavior like this? He’s in therapy but it seems ineffective.
