It's standard practice. Especially for first-timers, there are a lot of things to consider - such as fit. The son will need to work with the doc office to make sure the lens actually fits well in the eye and doesn't slip. (If you ever had one slipping during the trial stage, it's very obvious and definitely not the lens for you.)

I do agree, if a person has been wearing the same lenses for a decade or two, the fee is simply profit. But standard practice is standard practice.

Costco. Some of the other online companies have all sorts of gimmicks where they look cheaper and then all of a sudden there is a weird fee that brings it to double the cost.

Costco is easy (online) and cheaper. It pays for my membership for the year.

Just ask your optometrist for your prescription for both glasses and contact lenses.

I buy my contacts from Costco - it’s the same price for membership+ contacts as just the lenses at 1-800 Contacts.com - plus I get a Costco membership.

My 19-year-old son would like to get contact lenses. He normally wears glasses, and we have VSP insurance. Does anyone have a recommendation for a VSP-covered provider where he can go as a first-timer? I was told normally they don't take VSP and the fee is around $200. Any feedbacks ?
