I paid proudly when I took them out to dinner on my first visit after getting my first "real" job.

My parents always pay when we are together but ILs insist on splitting, which is find gross and distasteful bc they can more than afford it. My policy is if parents can afford to then pay, if not split.

I'm 45 and my mom hasn't bought me a meal or even offered to pay her own share in at least 20 years.

We have far more money than our kids, of course we pay.

DD, 26, and I just got back from a vacation that I primarily paid for. She paid for about one-third of the meals, though. She doesn’t earn a lot, so I’m fine with that.

Thinking back, my dad always paid at restaurants when I was an adult.

I’m 40, my parents are in their 70s and they still always pay. We make the occasional (weak) offer that they eschew.

They are very well off with plenty of disposable $$, and while we make a solid income, we’re in a pricey stage of life (day care, newer mortgage) so we’re grateful.

We don’t generally take money from them (made our own down payment) but the occasional dinner out is a nice treat from them.

My mom's 83 and still insists on paying when we go out. My kids are in college and might occasionally pick up food for the whole family and cover the cost but I'd never expect them to pay if we're going out together.

Kids make more than we do these days, but we still pay. The deal is that they pay it forward when their children are older.

Mine kids are 28 and 31 and we always pay. At the same time we always pay for my mother's meal. Occasionally she will treat us but it's rare (and she has plenty of money). When we go out with my father and his wife it's usually dutch (they are well off).

I make 7 figures so don't need my kids to pay for my meal - I'd rather they save the money.

Even though kids are gainfully employed, we pay and likely would until we lose our income but DH did start paying for his parents early on and has been covering all of their expenses since last 35 years.

My parents and in-laws always paid until we were a few years out from grad school. Now in our late 30s we pay for everyone most of the time, parents will pick up for a special occasion.

We still usually pay. But every fourth or fifth time our son pays. This started after he graduated and got his first job.
