I think a lot are. They're from NYC & often at the top of whatever their game is. Being rich helps develop that worldly, know-everything sense of sophistication.

The Hamptons are very nice in the winter and off-season, relaxing and not that showy. I don't really know for summer. We did the North Shore instead (dh's family is from LI)

Much easier to get to MV than the Hamptons from DC. Direct flights from DCA. I personally really dislike the “rich New Yorker” crowd and prefer the “rich New England” crowd in MV as well.

Nantucket is very small, very white, and very rich.
Less snobby? That's like saying Bill Gates is less wealthy compared to Bezos and Musk.

Martha's Vineyard is arguably the most diverse -- it has a large (rich) African-American population in the summer. But many of the most desirable beaches are private, and it's large, so you need a car. But it's also arguably the least snobby--there are a lot of very nice, normal people who live there year-round. If you go in late August, there's a huge Agricultural Fair with ride and games etc. Our teens love it.

Which would you visit for a week in August? We're on the east coast and usually go to the beaches in Florida or abroad but are looking to stay in the US and do something we haven't done before next summer. We've got 3 teenagers. We're looking for casual elegance, we've done the Miami Beach thing.

The one time I was in the Hamptons I was surprised how much people were still dressed like they were in NYC -- lots of all black, etc. The vibe is not like that on MV (or -- I assume -- Nantucket).
