How about that WR from Gretchen Walsh in the 100fly! She absolutely crushed Sjostrom’s record. Will we see her go below 55 seconds in Paris?!

Could possibly see some more WRs fall. Jack Alexy and Regan Smith look locked in their events (M 100fr, W 100bk and 200fly). Solid swims so far from Katie Ledecky, Carson Foster, Lilly King, and Tori Huske also. Rowdy Gaines is entertaining in the commentary, as usual.

I wonder what is up with Bella Sims - her swimming is pretty off her best. Maybe she got unlucky with an illness.

There are several! I’m disappointed that local news coverage has focused on the big names. I tuned into nbc local news earlier because they promised coverage of local athletes. It was Ladecky and Huske. Those two are incredible and deserve every moment in the spotlight, but I’d also love to hear about the just-turned-15 Makos swimmer from Fairfax that made two TT cuts while still age 14 and other locals that have accomplished this incredible feat of making it to Indy this week.

PP. Can you link the article? Would love to read it! I loved watching hunter Armstrong’s comeback from his slip and Carson foster’s redemption. I also loved seeing the 200 free swim off between that pair of youngsters. These trials have been so fun to watch with my swimmer kids, they are all starry eyed at how amazing the athletes are.

The backstroke explanation was part of the NBC broadcast last night. Elizabeth Beisel swam with a camera on her head to show what it looks like with the ceiling lights making it hard to see and the Jumbotron in the middle so the swimmer can have trouble tracking where they are. You could probably see the broadcast again if you have a Peacock subscription.

I saw an article about Gabrielle Rose — 46 years old!! She set a national age group record at 11-12 and then “lost” her breaststroke. It was so interesting to hear that, as I totally experienced that albeit at a less elite level.
I don’t know if it happens the same way with other strokes. Crazy to think you can “find” it again in middle age. I wonder if she has kids? I can’t imagine balancing that training with all the things that come with parenting.

They have been so exciting to watch! I wish they had interviewed Gabrielle Rose - if they had, I missed it. I wish there were more segments about the swimmers in general. But the action has been riveting. A world record on night one really set the tone. Who is everyone excited to see?
