Is it even a crime?

It’s not a crime. If the purse is open it’s a donation to the needy.

Reparations, even.

In some places one can do this... Sucks that we can't..I don't understand hostility though. That was nice of you ❤️

I used the new freeze card function..within a half hour a declined 500+ charge appeared. A lot of ladies have open style summer bags like mine, and the thieves are enjoying this. I would encourage people to zip if possible, keep their bag under their armpit, watchful eye, don't set it down while you browse etc. Also, trust your spidey sense. Thinking back there was a customer that was a bit off, and I registered it without really registering it. It's a different world, less trust now, too bad.

Can you leave your phone next to your wallet the next time? You don't need to make their job any harder.

Sounds like something a little restorative justice and additional wrap-around services could solve.

I think it might be, actually. DC thugs traditionally club their victims in the head with bricks before robbing them. It has always been a brute force thing around here. Our local guys never bothered to develop light-fingered picking of purses and pockets--probably because there is so little consequence for even violent crimes.

To be sure, if it is true that the youths are retiring their bricks it is a big improvement!

I think it's the quickness and boldness of it. It's in open view, people around etc. Just saying, dont open the door for this. It's basically the same people who help themselves to the shelves of CVS.

PSA-- pickpocketing is everywhere right now. Thieves are targeting unzipped purses in malls, grocery stores etc. Have heard of two instances this week in NW DC and MoCo, nice areas. They know what they are doing. Zip up and guard your bag ladies.
