They have came out in June for the past 14 years that I've lived here.

+1. I don’t this is unusually early. What was “terrifying” to me was how few there were last year. I am beyond thrilled that there are so many this year. Lightning bugs are truly one of life’s simple pleasures.

If there’s fewer of them, blame your dumbass neighbors (or yourself) for spraying for mosquitoes.

If all these delicate flowers on this forum weren’t so absolutely terrified of Larlo getting a mosquito bite, we’d have a lot more lightning bugs.

I grew up here and remember catching fireflies every year before school let out for summer break. Late May/June is right on time for fireflies.

You’re out of your damn mind talking about July or August. I dunno what your game is or what you’re trying to imply, but you suck at it.

Are you talking about fireflies?

They've always come out here in DC in June. Maybe out west in Washington it's different?

I just moved to this area. I haven't seen lightening bugs since I was a little kid! It was such a joy to see so many of them last night when I was walking the dog. I did a double take and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.

So this is normal here? I am (pleasantly) stunned!!!

It's like the cherry blossoms coming early. When things are off in the biome, it can kill off species. They are part of a food web.

Why is it terrifying to see them now? We have been seeing them for a month in Anacostia
