They have to pack everything up in classroom (either move it out or have it in storage inside the classroom), have bulletin boards cleared off or covered by paper. The elementary teachers are also responding to emails from parents about items that their kids left at school.
Even for those staying in same classroom, the room has to be pretty empty & ready for other use.
Teachers will participate in professional development over the summer. Specifically for ES, there is training to prepare for new curriculum & all that goes along w that.

And the floors will get the heavy duty wax job that sprays wax on everything that's not covered!
Because that is what MCPS needs right now, waxy floors!!!
They replace the wax every summer to protect the floors. That way they don't have to replace floors every few years.
I bet you don't clean your gutters, either.
