You should carry liability insurance in case someone gets sick from your product.

Once upon a time any food for sale to the public had to be produced in a commercial kitchen subject to regular inspection. Not sure if that’s still the case. There are commercial kitchens where you can rent space, sometimes by the hour. Some restaurants also offer after hours kitchen access rentals.

Idk about Virginia but Maryland definitely has a cottage food law for stuff sold at farmers markets.

In my state cooperative extension would be the place to seek guidance, not sure about Virginia.

This is OP. I didn't think so either, but I am confused because I am getting mixed information. Hopefully someone experienced at this may be able to shed some light.

I’m not sure if that falls under the cottage foods law.

I am finding contradicting information on rules around selling home-baked cookies. Some websites say food license is required. Some say cottage foods don't require licensing.

Can I sell home-baked cookies in Virginia at a farmers market or online? I do not have any license right now. Is a food safety license required for baked goods?
