Why would MCPS use new and unreliable tests? Tests of reading and math have been around for a long long time. It's not like you're testing for some disease that was just discovered.

MCPS doesn't. They use MAP. The state, however, has a new and unproven test called MCAP. The hope is they can work out the bugs in a couple of years.

What's the rationale for the change to MCAP? I moved out of MCPS a few years ago and am now planning to move back in, and all the data seem...different.

You should respond to that other thread about the poster moving out of MoCo because they found mCPS undesirable. And Lynne Harris would love to hear from you too. And of course that MCPS lawyer on these forums.

Look at Individual Measures and MCAPs.

MCAPs are tied to state standards. The problem is teachers don’t really understand the standards and don’t teach to them, so students are not prepared and don’t do well. And common core standards are pretty rigorous. But the MCAP results seem to match what you’d expect - which demographics do well, etc. The MAPs are known to be less reliable indicator of mastery of the common core standards. It tests something, but not common core standards.

Those poor bio students whose grades depend on an unproven test. Sucks to be them.

It's part of School Profiles now: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/school-profiles

Click on Elementary Profile Dashboard, then select the school you're looking for at the top, then click on the icon on the left side that says Academic Pathways.

Where do you find the info for each MCPS elementary school about % of kids at grade level for reading/math etc?

It used to be in those "at a glance" 2 page PDFs, but now those documents don't have any info on academic achievement (just demography and teacher qualifications).
